Employer Responsibility
Insurance
According to Hong Kong government regulations, employers are required to purchase labor insurance for foreign domestic workers on the day they arrive in Hong Kong. It is also recommended that employers purchase medical insurance for their foreign domestic workers so that they can receive free medical care during their employment period, including payment for outpatient, hospitalization and dental consultation expenses, to ensure peace of mind.
Latest Lowest Salary & Meal Allowance
The minimum wage for domestic workers is HK$4,990, and employers are required to provide free meals and accommodation. If free meals is not provide, employer shall give a food allowance of HK$1,236 according to regulation
Working location and condition
The work location is limited to the address specified in the contract between the employer and the domestic worker.
Statutory holiday and annual leave
Employers are required to arrange at least one rest day per week. In addition, domestic helpers who have worked for three months are entitled to twelve statutory holidays each year (New Year's Day, Ching Ming Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, etc.). If a statutory holiday falls on the domestic helper's rest day, the employer must make a replacement for the domestic helper. . When a domestic worker has worked for an employer continuously for one year, she or he is entitled to paid annual leave.
Contract termination
The employment contract period is two years. When the contract is about to expire, the employer needs to discuss contract renewal with the domestic helper in advance and calculate the paid leave that the domestic helper should have. If both parties choose to renew the contract, the employer must pay for the domestic helper's round-trip airfare; if they do not renew the contract, the employer must notify the domestic helper one month in advance and pay for the domestic helper's one-way airfare back to his or her place of origin.
Long service award
Long service payment means that if a foreign domestic worker has served the same employer continuously for 5 years or more, the employer must pay long service payment when the employer terminates the contract or does not renew the contract with the foreign domestic worker.
To Apply
(I) Application Requirements
A Hong Kong permanent resident or holding an employment contract with a company or organization, proving that the employer is employed to work in Hong Kong.
(II) Required Documents
1. Copy of employer’s ID card
2. Proof of income

Monthly salary of HK$15,000 or above (must have bank transfer records for 3 consecutive months)

Copy of the most recent tax return (annual salary HK$180,000 or above)

Copy of time/current deposits in the last 6 months (HK$360,000 or above)

Bank statement showing the applicant’s monthly salary.
b. If the employer is unable to provide proof of income, other family members may provide it:

Copy of marriage certificate (marriage relationship: if the marriage certificate is lost, the birth certificate of the child can be used to prove the marriage relationship)

3. Proof of address
Rates, water, electricity, gas, fixed-line telephone bills, cable TV, home broadband for the last three months (can be in spouse's name, but marriage certificate is required)
If you live in public housing, please provide a certification document from the Housing Department (a letter and photo from the Housing Department are also required)
4. Family Member Information
Full name in English, date of birth and identity card number (passport number or birth certificate number is also acceptable)
5. Letter of Guarantee
If the applicant wishes to hire a domestic helper for his or her parents or family members, he or she must present a family relationship certificate and an additional guarantee letter guaranteeing that he or she will pay the relevant expenses.
